Introduction of Guests (Fall 2006)

From Hansard

22 November 2006 - Health Organization Representatives

Mr. McMorris: — Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, I’d like to join with the member opposite in welcoming to the people gallery that he had mentioned, whether it’s the cancer society or heart and stroke, all those members. Quite often when we see somebody in the gallery if they’re a former member, we’ll say they’re no stranger to this Assembly. Well they’re not former members, but I believe they’re no strangers to this Assembly. We’ve seen them in gallery many, many times, and they do great work to promote good health in our province. So I’d like to on behalf of the official opposition, welcome them and thank them for the work they do.

20 November 2006 - Students Against Drinking and Driving

Mr. McMorris: — Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I’d like to join with the minister opposite in welcoming all the students from the Students Against Drinking and Driving program in Luther and Sheldon. We know there are many more students around the province that do great work in the SADD program.

I can tell you that in my previous life, when I used to work for the Saskatchewan Safety Council, I really got to understand and follow SADD quite closely as it worked out of our office under the direction of the first executive director for SADD, Mike Fedyk, who did just amazing work for that program to get it launched and have it really spread to become a provincial organization which we know SADD is.

I also would like to, on behalf of the official opposition, compliment them on the work that they do because, when you’re preventing collisions — and especially when you’re preventing drinking and driving collisions — you don’t really know how many you have prevented. It’s a number that we just . . . We assume we’ve prevented however many, hundreds of collisions, but we don’t know for sure. So even though you can’t see the numbers tangibly, we know the work that you’re doing is extremely valuable for our province. And we thank not only the group here in this gallery but members of SADD throughout the province.

14 November 2006 - Canadian Diabetes Association Members

Mr. McMorris: — Thank you, Mr. Speaker. To you and through you to the rest of the Assembly, I’d like to join with the Minister of Health in welcoming the people from Canadian Diabetes here to their Legislative Assembly.

I know we’re going to have an opportunity to meet with them in a more formal basis this evening and certainly look forward to that as a number of members, I think on both sides of the House, will be attending that reception and dinner. So we look forward to that. And welcome to the Assembly. And maybe this evening we can answer some of the questions that were posed today during question period if they don’t get answered in here. So we look forward to that opportunity.

31 October 2006 - Ilean and John Kolynchuk

Mr. McMorris: — Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I’d like to join with the minister in welcoming Ilean and John to the Assembly. When I walked into the Assembly today and I looked up and the faces were very, very familiar, and it took a long time for me to figure out exactly where I’d met them before. But they’re both . . . John is a member of the Elks club. And I remember a couple of different Elks’ mixed provincial bonspiels that we were at and curling against them, and unfortunately I don’t think we ever did beat them in any of the spiels that we were in. But I’d like to welcome them to their Assembly as well.
